What is the likely impact on House value when a New Cemetery is built with its access gate right next to my house?

  • Hi qswain, It is hard to give a definitive answer on what changes to the value of your house will be seen if a cemetery is built next door. There are a number of things to take into consideration, such as whether this will lead to increased traffic nearby, parking on the road outside your house, the revving of diggers during the day to dig graves etc. On the other hand, cemeteries tend to be very quiet and peaceful places, and would certainly be better than having a housing development or supermarket spring up next to your house. Cemeteries should also be locked up at night so that should reduce the chances of any anti-social behaviour taking place. Furthermore, as far as I'm aware cemeteries cannot be built on - which should ensure that you do not have anything else, such as a housing estate, constructed there in the future. Can anyone share their experience of living near a cemetery? Scott
