How are prices doing in the Hendford Hill area of Yeovil? According to this site, they appear to be holding up. But surely that's in contradiction to everywhere else, where prices seem to be dropping sharply??

Hendford Hill has a wide variety of properties and these will "value" according to demand. One or two sales can distort the statistics given for " house prices". Anyway never believe what you read about prices, any house is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it and demand has dropped with the credit crunch. Your best bet is to ask local agents what they think- but then can they be trusted? I find that the media and estate agents talk the market up and down to suit their purposes

There's a huge volume of properties for sale in central Yeovil, particularly on Hendford, and most of it is not selling. I can think of three complexes of flats on Hendford Hill off the top of my head, a further four new complexes in the town centre, and another two just the other side of the dual carriageway. Most of them were built a few years ago now, and many flats have never been lived in. I think the problem is that these properties are mainly very small 1-bedroom flats. Yeovil is a very family-orientated area, so most single people would just live with their parents. Yeovil also has a fairly low average salary, so a young single person wouldn't be able to buy one of these flats. These flats are miles too small for a couple with any posessions, and are unthinkable for a family! So, I don't think the house prices are going to hold up - I think the developers are just refusing to drop.
