Can I rent a flat with bad credit

I have a bad credit history...have debts that are now being managed by a debt management company. All my payments are now being paid at an agreed rate and on time. I have been looking to rent on my own for the first time. My situation at home means I NEED to get out asap. I work full time. I am struggling to get a deposit together but I know after a lot of saving I should get there but the time it is going to take compared to how desperate I am to get out of home is frustrating. Now I have been reading on forums and apparently in my situation I am never going to be able to rent anyway. Is this true and is there any help available anywhere?

  • Hi nutter22, Having bad credit can certainly make it a lot more difficult to be able to rent, but that doesn't mean that it can't be done. There are ways that you are able to get a property - and in some cases there are even some letting agents that do not carry out credit checks. The best thing to do, however, is to simply explain your situation to the agents though. Remember that they are human, too, and they may be able to help you if you approach them. Be prepared with all of the documentation that can help as well. Having things such as a couple of good references from a former landlord can help you immensely, while providing a guarantor's letter will make a big difference. This will mean that someone else is legally obligated for the rent should you be unable to pay, which will help give them peace of mind. Many thanks, Scott

  • Most agents will consider your application, if you can find a guarantor? who is 18, a UK home owner, and has an annual income around 30 times the monthly rent, ultimately it is the landlords decision, so if you are honest they will sometimes sign an indemnity. contact Fox & Sons.
