Can I rent a property at the age of 16?

I am 16, and finacianly stable and wondering if it is possible to rent a property?

  • It's unlikely that you will be able to rent accommodation if you are under 18 years old unless you can get a 'guarantor' to also sign for you.

  • It is unlikely that most landlords will accept and under 16, 18 is the general requirement for a formal tenancy agreement. As Arthur rightly says seek a guarantor to give you the best chance.

  • No, unless you pay the rent yourself, council won't help with rent at 16 but some private landlords do if you have guarantor with own house.
