The best places to look are the classified section of your local newspaper, private listing sites such as gumtree. Also have a drive around areas that you are interested in to see if there are any private boards on display. You could also check notice boards at local supermarkets and post offices.

Agree with the answers above. have a look at local newspapers as landlords can advertise privately from there. It may also be an idea to speak to your local council, as landlords sometimes approach them to let their properties.
