If I rent a house through a letting agent is there always a charge?

  • The answer is most probably yes. It would be rare to find an agent who didn't charge for their services although of course there may be exceptions.

  • Most agents will charge a fee, if only for referencing and credit checking purposes. Many also charge an application fee, although there can be a lot of variation in price. It depends how badly you want a particular property that a particular agent is marketing, as to whether you think it is worth paying their fees.
