How the agent charge the fees when rent a property

The fee before moving in charged by the agent to rent a £850 apartment includes: admin fee £120 for couple, referencing fee £228 for couple and deposit £1200, one month rental fee £850, plus check out fee £60. Total £2458. Is the charge reasonable?

  • Paying one months rent and one months deposit is normal. the agent doesnt get any of that. The fee the agent gets is £120 +£228 = £348. Ask other agents what they charge and then decide if its fair

  • Most of the agent fee's are pure profit (except the up front rent) but as mentioned its good to shop around.
