What is the cost of renting a flat ?

How much would the cost be renting for the first time? The deposit, references, etc.

  • Hi Peter, The cost will change depending on a number of different factors - these will include things like the specific letting agent that you go through (all have different prices), the area you choose to live in, the cost per month of the flat (which has a knock on effect on other costs). At the most basic level, you will need to pay a month's worth of rent in advance, as well as a security deposit, which is typically six weeks' of rent but can sometimes be as much as eight. In addition to this, many letting agents will also charge you an application fee for processing your application to live there, as well as a small charge for carrying out a credit check. Finally, many letting agents and landlords will also include a monthly maintenance fee which covers things such as keeping external areas and communal parts of the building in good area. It is often included in the rent, but not always, so it is good to check beforehand. Many thanks, Scott
