How do I rent a house private without going through an estate agent ie private landlord?

You can use websites like gumtree or torent, but make sure you professionally reference a tenant. Many people do successfully let out their properties privately but I would always say no tenant is better than a bad tenant!!! Often many tenants who are concerned they won't pass a Lettings Agents criteria choose the private route where the checks carried out might be insufficient. Don't make this mistake!
