I have a ccj and am worried that this will jeopardise my eligability to rent from an an agency.

Will I have problems passing credit checks?

  • The answer to this question will largely depend on who the agents use to reference tenants, the best thing to do is contact local agents and explain your situation. Each one will have slightly different criteria. If you can apply with a guarantor this would be the best way forward, another alternative is to offer to pay the rental term in advance.

  • A CCJ doesn't mean that you will not be able to rent through an agency. The best option you have is to inform agencies you speak to, and let them know how things stand. Agencies may also ask for the severity of the CCJ, and if it isn't too big, then agencies may also accept this. The best option you have would be to provide a UK guarentor, or pay a minimum of 6 months rent in advanse. I hope this helps!
