Renting a 3 bedroomed house and living on my own?

Can I rent a house while living on my own till 2013, till my partner comes home?

  • As long as your income is sufficient, I'd imagine most landlords would be OK - you could add your partner to the tenancy agreement with the landlord's consent at a later date.

  • Aslong as you can afford it then I can't see why not, some landlords/letting agents may ask for proof of income though so they know you have enough money coming in and will be able to pay the rent. It might be a problem if you are unemployed and claiming housing benefit because benefit entitlement is usually based on how many bedrooms you and your family need. As you will be living on your own the amount of benefit you receive will only cover the cost of renting a 1 bedroomed property. If you're working but on a low income and claim housing benefit, then aswell as being based on how many bedrooms you need, the amount you are entitled to will also depend on your earnings, you may earn too much to claim full housing benefit but maybe entitled to some benefit to help towards paying your rent (help towards the cost of renting a 1 bed). xx
