Can you start a business from rented accommodation?

Is it illegal/a problem running a business from a rented property? I have seen a residential property I want to rent, I will be living there full time, I have a full time job, but also want to do some dog grooming part time from the garage of the property. The landlord has said he is happy for this to happen but the letting agent has said it's not possible as you are not allowed to run any kind of business from a rented property. I have don't my own research and find this to be incorrect so don't understand what they mean. Can anyone shed any light on the situation please?

  • Hi. Often mortgage companies don't allow landlords to rent to tenants who run businesses at home. It's often the case with insurance companies unfortunately.
