Advice about buying a flat in Leicester City centre to rent out

Hi, I am considering purchasing a 2 bedroom flat in Leicester City centre to rent out. I would imagine there is a good market here with students and professionals needing to live in this area. Any advice from those with experience renting and dealing with the rental marking in Leicester would be appreciated.

  • Cities always have a good rental market. I'd suggest that you consider your target market (ie, do you want to let to students, professionals, family, benefit recipients), then choose the property accordingly, eg. a new block of flats with lots of amenities close to the train station will appeal to young professionals, where something within walking distance of the university may attract students more. The estate agent should be able to give you an idea of what the rental value would be, so you can take a view on your return on investment.
