Timing of search for apartments
How far in advance should one search for a flat in London when moving from another country? Is August too soon for January start of rental?

Yes you're probably looking a little ahead of time. The best thing to do is get a rough idea of the prices, including the costs imposed by the agency for referencing and deposit protection - work on a rule that you'll need up to two months' deposit saved up, and have a little buffer for unexpected eventualities. This way, you can start looking around the Christmas period (beware, you may wish to agree something prior to week commencing 17th December as agents will be winding down) and be ready to move quickly. If you can pay the money instantly and move immediately, you'll stand a higher chance of securing your dream pad!
