Back in 2004 I stayed in "High Gate" London. There are excellent transport link and it was an 8 minute walk to Highgate Tube station. Nearby you can get a collection of largely Georgian shops, pubs, restaurants and residential streets, interspersed and more. We found this place very convenient to stay.

It depends where you want to go to, but If you are looking at W2, I would recommend Paddington. It has good transport links and it is very central
