What is the typical deposit for renting a house in the Berkshire area?

Just trying to calculate how much I need to save before I can start renting. Was looking at approx 900 pcm in the Berkshire area.

  • Hi AnnFernandez, The level of security deposit that any letting agent will charge before you move into a property can change occasionally. However, for the vast majority, it will be six weeks rental cost. So if you are looking to rent out a property that is £900 per calendar month (PCM), you would be looking at a deposit of £1,350 for this house. It is also important to remember though that this will not be the only charge that you are paying at the first month of your tenancy, as you will also need to pay one month's rent in advance, so you will typically be looking at an initial outlay of £1,250 if you are renting a house at this price. Many thanks, Scott
