How easy is it to rent a flat in London while living abroad in the U.S. (I'm planning a move to London in late September)?

I'm an American who is starting a postgraduate program in London in September. I'm not sure how to make payments and agreements from abroad and if it's possible to rent an apartment without viewing it first. Any help and advice is much appreciated!

  • It's not easy, as competition for flats is high and most landlords would want to see proof of UK residence and bank details - not to mention meet you. If you can stand it, there are quite a few private developments targeted at students that would be easier to deal with. Google 'student accommodation London'. This may be a good short-term option, as is AirBnB. When I was in the same situation I also looked into Goodenough College, which is specifically for international postgraduates and absolutely gorgeous. Good luck!
