Help with mum, potentially loosing home

Hi Zoopla, My mum is currently at risk of loosing her house due to finicall issues. If she sells I believe she will have enough money left over to rent for a while with no worries and clear any debt she has. One of the issues here is she is not working at the moment as she is currently recovering from a leg operation. She has looked into all benefits that surround this as far as I know and is still potentially at risk of loosing the house. She is worried that if this does happen and due to the fact she is unable to work at the moment and does not have a great credit score she won't be able to rent. If she is able to pay a lump sum of rent in one got eg. 6 months plus (money from selling the house) do you think people will rent to her. Finally I am not sure if she is able to get housed by the council due to the money she will hav e left over and other people taking priority. I'd really appreciate if you could help by answering the above!

  • Your mother should speak to the lender about her financial issues. Communication is key and most mortgage companies do not want to repossess houses they lend on. If she can pay at least some of what is owed they may well be sympathetic to her situation. Best of luck.

  • She should talk to her lender and rent one room. She can earn £7,500 tax free every year renting a part of the house.
