You can find good returns in most cities if you know where to look and are patient. I would always buy locally, it is easier to asses the market, to view properties and be on hand should anything need attention. I set up my agency off the back of my own portfolio and have been investing and advising Investors for the last 9 years in Southampton. As you appear to be Lymington based then Southampton would be the most sensible place, Purchase prices in Lymington are generally a bit too high to generate good returns. I would be happy to advise you in more detail if you would like.
