Fee for renting a flat

When an agent is involved in the rental/letting of a flat, will the tenant have to pay any fees to the agent, if so, how much?

  • Yes, it is likely that the tenant will pay a referencing and credit check fee upfront, which could be as much as £250 + VAT for the lead tenant and £50 + VAT for each other. adult tenant, although fees will vary from one letting agent to another.The tenant will also pay one months rent upfront and normally 6 weeks of the gross monthly rent as a security deposit, which will be paid on the day of moving in

  • Hi, almost all Letting Agents charge tenants an initial fee for taking a tenancy with them. This fee will vary agent to agent but is usually in the reigon of £150 per adult tenant. This fee is on top of paying the first months rent and a security deposit. Many agents will also charge a renewal fee should you decide to renew your tenancy contract.
