Utilities Cost-Manchester City Centre

I'm moving to Manchester from Canada and i'm trying to put together a budget. I was wondering if anyone could roughly tell me how much water, electricity, and gas would cost for a 1 bedroom apartment

  • Hi Icapobl, In order to predict your utility bills much will depend on your accommodation. If you are planning on renting then you might be able to find somewhere where your gas, electricity and water is included - ideal if you are on a budget. Some appartments might make use of pre-paid meters where you will have to go and top up, much like with a mobile phone, at a local shop. These tend to be more expensive however. With other properties the landlord will have set-up a provider, but you are within your rights to find your own deals. If you are buying then I would advise checking out a couple of comparison websites, such as Confused.com or Moneysupermarket.com. These will give you access to a calculator and allow you to estimate your bills, depending on your usage. Fixing for a certain period of time (say two years), will ensure that you don't pay extra every time energy companies put the rates up, while a water meter is ideal for a one-bedroom apartment (if it can be fitted) as you will only pay for what you use. Thanks Scott
