Can I get my deposit back?

I have recently put down a holding deposit for a room but haven't as yet signed any paperwork or contracts validating the tenancy. Is the landlord legally entitled to keep my deposit or is he obliged to reimburse me some or part of the deposit? It is part and the room has been taken off the market.

  • He's not legally obliged to do anything as you didn't sign anything.

  • Hi, No he must return this deposit as you have not legally signed any contracts validating that you will be a tenant and therefore up until this point he is unable to do anything with your holding deposit. We hope this helps.
