Looking to let in Staffordshire.

I have an adverse credit rating at present, could I still rent somewhere and if so how do I find out what is available to me in this area?

  • Hi igbridge, Yes, it is still possible to rent a house even if you have a bad credit rating or a poor history. As for what is available to you, it is impossible to say, as there are letting agents up and down the country who have different processes. Many, for example, do not even carry out credit checks, so there is no need to worry about such an issue coming up in certain cases. With others, even if you are subject to a credit rating and you fail it, you will have other options. You can offer to pay the rent a few months in advance to give them peace of mind. Or more commonly, you could provide details of a guarantor, who is legally responsible for your rent payments if you fail to meet them. This is normally enough for most landlords and agents, and if you can find someone for this purpose then you should be fine. Many thanks, Scott
