Can a landlord sell the house you rent from him and put you out on the road?

Can a landlord sell the house you rent from him and put you out on the road? As I am in council property, have been for 55 years in the same house, so need to move from here as it has gone so rough but have never been with any other than the council, what other ways or options have I got 2 move from here?

  • Ask the council to move you. Basicly, with a private landlord he can kick you out onto the street if he serves notice in accordance with the terms of the tenancy areeement which you agree with him.

  • The landlord owns the property and can sell if he wants. BUT he must give you 2 months notice first. Plenty of time to find a new home.

  • As I said, 'in accordance with the terms....'

  • The landlord has to issue you a Section 21 Notice To Quit two months in advance. The landlord does not have to give any reason for ending the tenancy agreement. Having lived there for 55 years you won't have an AST (Assured Shorthold Tenancy) agreement but something similar in writing (hopefully!) so whatever the T&Cs say on that.
