Can I still rent if I have a bad credit history?

  • Some rental agencies run credit checks, so if you have a bad credit history it could count against you. Not all landlords do credit checks, so you might be able to rent privately should you run in to difficulties renting from a company.

  • Hi II2427, As mentioned in the answer above, it is still fully possible for you to rent a place even if you have had bad credit counting against you, as there are some agents and landlords who will simply not carry out a credit check before letting to you. However, even if they do, there are ways around this hurdle. For example, you could look to speak to someone who is more financially secure and has a better history to see if they will become your guarantor. This will mean they are legally responsible for payment of your rent, and many agents will trust these. Your other option can be to simply provide details of your income, references from previous landlords and even offering a larger than required security deposit, all of which can work in your favour.
