I wouldn't say it's very safe for a woman on her own. I wouldn't really recommend it, but that's my personal opinion. I used to live there a while back and it wasn't that pleasant to walk home on my own from the tube station late at night after work, I always asked my boyfriend to come and get me. Though it was a few years ago so the situation might have changed since then. And I guess like with any boroughs in London, there are areas in Leyton which are not so bad.

Hi walking home at night in any area is not good for a woman on her own, however many do and the crime rate in certain parts of Leyton are low, The Barclay Estate is quiet and safe and is not far from Leytonstone and Walthamstow tube stations. Leyton is on the up so if you are moving in location is the key, try to live on the boarders of Snarebrook and Wanstead, very safe and very good for middle class families. Hope it helps. G

Hi, as with any city, it is important to use common sense. Stick to well lit roads, don't walk down any dark alleys and don't get distracted by your mobile and you'll be ok. I have lived here for over 40 years and never experienced any trouble. The buses are so frequent anyway that there really is no need to walk if you feel unsure, also there are so many people about, even in the early hours, that you never feel unsafe.
