Hi Kevin Rajoo,
If you are looking for the latest crime and safety statistics for your area, one of the best places you can look to find out the numbers is on police.uk, where you need to search for a postcode to get the most up-to-date data.
Doing this for the area of Newham in London that you specified shows that the crime rate in this area of the capital has been remaining steady across the last two years, with a small fall in the past 12 months recorded up until the end of September in 2012. It is however, above the national average, with 259 crimes committed in the area in the month of December.
However, London will mostly always have higher incidences of crime than other areas, largely because of the size of the population, so like for like comparisons are also important to look at.
For areas of the same size as Newham across the UK as a whole, its crime rate is higher than most. However, while it is above the average for the Met Police areas, it has lower levels of crime than the likes of Camden, Fulham and Islington.
