Like most towns it has it's downmarket areas... Stevenage is ok if you like drab city centre/out of town supermarket feel. It's characterless to say the least but has a fantastic train link to London...Better areas nearby are Hertford, Hitchin and Ware.

Stevenage is not a concrete jungle but enjoys lots of greenery and is a clean town. It does have pockets of areas that are less desirable, but then all towns do. I think Stevenage is alot nicer than some towns and just as nice as others. It has good transport links to other areas, villages, towns and London. It has an Old Town and New Town so there's a bit of history there too if you're into that and some quaint old buildings/houses in the Old Town area. The Leisure Park has brought people in from London and other areas to the night clubs there and there have been a few incidents, not unlike any other nightclub venues. It's not a rough area in my opinion.
