Is Weston Super Mare a safe place to live in compared to Carlisle?

Thinking of moving south and thus doing some research.

  • I don't know Carlisle but I live in Weston and would I advise a friend or tto move here? "NO" Over the last 10 years they have moved a lot of junkies and alcoholics here as part of a government scheme that was supposed to help them recover. WELL some of them did recover (well done to them) but many did not and now all their mates from round the country live here as well. It's got so bad that the Council are leaving the town to move to Clevedon. (that tells you a lot) They are also on about selling off the theatre and closing the museum. The old pier has been left to rot the last 10 years, the indoor pool on the front closed and is now yuppie housing. The open air pool closed and for the last 6-10 years has had several developers who have pulled out because they recognise its not a growing town. Only in housing for people who work outside the town. Which is ok if you want to spend 30 min just getting onto the motorway before you start your journey or want to stand on a late, expensive, train journey to Bristol. Our wages are low mostly (very min) and our housing is expensive. Holiday makers come for the day because that's all it takes to see what Weston has to offer. There are a lots of good people in Weston but I think most local people would agree Weston has been neglected by the council and by the Goverment. OH I forgot we do have a carrot.. ask anyone in the town were it is but don't ask what it is for because we're still trying to work it out (the council had to spend some cash on art). And I also forgot, if you arrive at night and IF its working, we have a light (to tell travelers that they have passed the exit for Weston and keep going). Weston was once a lovely growing town, we pay council tax just not sure what they spend it on.. Hope Carlisle is better news Sorry so long but the truth often takes longer!

  • Hi, yes it is much safer depending on where you head for and if you are buying council or private. There good and bad as in most towns we have a good town with excellent shopping / buses /police and /schooling. We don't have a high rate of crime in this town . If you are planning a move down here then I suggest that a short stay is in order, then ask the locals as to which area are the best, the ones which to avoid are Bornville which is crime ridden (not all of it) just the centre and Queens estates, again the problem is in the flats and in the centers of them. The best schools are mead vale and the best post code is BS228QA which is app 1/2 mile from town and on a bus route with shops in a 5min walk there are several park home residential sites which are very good clean and well maintained. I hope this gives you a little help.
