Most lenders will not deal directly with repossessions as it is bad publicity and will have employed an asset management company to act on their behalf for the sale. Why would you not want to go through the agent as they will ultimately deal with the sale even if you are successful in contact the lenders directly? The property will also remain for sale until contracts are exchanged so you are better off getting the agents on side, rather than them trying their best to blow you out and get an alternative buyer.

The Land Registry certificate may help: there should be a copy in the Home Information Pack available from the agent (it may be online). The mortgage lender owes a duty of care to the mortgagor to get the best price which is best demonstrated by placing the property on the open market ie not through a private sale. You may be able to port the mortgage ie save the fees incurred by borrowing from another source. Let me know if you need valuation advice. Good luck

You are unlikely to be able to deal with the lender direct as per previous answer. Not sure why you would want to either the agent will be acting under instructions from the lender or asset management company, this can be very difficult for buyers to understand but their is a lot of red tape surrounding the selling of repossessed properties which can sometimes make it look like the agent is being unhelpful. In most cases they are just following the procedures set down by the building society.
