Estate agents fees; 18 months later?

I took my house off the market and terminated the agreement with the estate agent in Feb 2011. A couple introduced by the agents to me wanted to stay in touch and have visited twice in the last year and are now ready to buy. Can the agent still demand their fee in this case, after nearly two years?

  • I wouldn't think so, but just to be on the safe side I would check the agency agreement you signed with the estate agent and check if there is any mention of time lapsing and fees due. Citizens advice could also assist you to clarify this agreement if its difficult to understand. Hope this helps.

  • If the agent introduced the couple to you, I'd have thought they have a strong case for demanding their fee, but I'd check the small print.
