Flats with large charges

Will buying a flat with large maintenance charges be difficult to sell?

  • Hi Susan. It could do! Future buyers (like you) will worry about future resale as well as the actual cost of living there. A very high charge can often indicate either a problematic building or an extravagant managing agent. Neither are good. Only exception is for example, a luxury block in a Listed Property where residents would be willing to pay high charges. If you need any more information, don't hesitate to get in contact.   • 'Large' is relative to the property. Are the charges good value for money? If the property is well maintained, and the charges affordable to the sort of buyer the property will attract then it is not a problem. High charges for for a property that will only appeal to budget concious buyers will be a problem.
