Is there a way for me to compare estate agents?

I am trying to choose between 2-3 estate agents and I am struggling. One piece of information that would certainly help is how each of them do in terms of price (compared to valuation price on the Home Report) and time to sell. Is there anywhere online where I could find this information and benchmark my estate agent-to-be against a local average?

  • I believe there are several comparison sites which should provide you with the information you are after. Personally, I would not judge the agency but the agent you deal with. I know of many agency’s who are poor performers yet have some great members of staff.

  • Have you looked at www.estate-agent-compare.co.uk It allows you to compare estate agents in any postcode area by, probably the most important criteria, which is how many houses they sell as well as how many of their clients they tend to keep or lose.

  • A good way to compare Estate agents is on All Agents, this allows you to see reviews from previous customers. You might also like to compare the different options available at www.housetree.co.uk , there have a range of four options designed to save you money on your fees.

  • I have used a couple of sites and the best I have found is netanagent.com, it provides real time marketing proposals including fees from local estate agents and online agents. The website is also very simple to use and doesn't try to sell you anything.

  • I was looking for exactly the same as you! The agent performance is so important, yet so hard to find. If you are in London, I highly recommend GetAgent. They show price achieved, time to sell and then will get you quotes from the best agents in your area. I used them to find my agent (Rolfe East) and they were great.

  • One of the most important aspects of an agency’s performance is their ability to obtain the best sale price. The House Shop offer a service that generates stats showing this information.

  • I guess people have said it before, but using a comparison site which shows you statistics on estate agents in your area is the best way, like GetAgent.co.uk - they whittle down to the top 6 Agents based on sales data - "stats don't lie" comes to mind!

  • We used a couple of sites when we moved earlier in the year, and whilst stats were nice to have, pretty much every agent has a 98%+ asking price stat to their name, so it didn't really help. So, we looked at fees, invited out the ones we were happy to pay for, and chose based on chemistry. We used netanagent.com to get fees - they had more agents in our area, and some online ones as well which was handy if only to see what they did.
