There are a number of ways, private for sale websites, advertise it in the classified adds in property papers and local papers, the tempt me section on this website. However the reason the vast majority of properties are sold trough a typical high street estate agent is they will get your property out to more buyers and get the best price for you, they will chase the sale, vet buyers before they view. Why would you want complete strangers in your house with out records of who they are? Also if you are looking to buy on an estate agent view private sales cynically as they are often fraught with problems often fall through and the agent ends up chasing this link as well. If you like I can get a good honest estate agent to contact you without obligation.

Do you have something against Agents? Why go to the bother of trying to sell it yourself, when it can take hours and hours of background knowledge, costs to advertise etc, only to try and avoid a relatively small commission? If you are serious about DIY, advertise using print media and the web, and wait for the phone to ring, then arrange viewings etc. Think about the benefits of your property to attract your target market. Good luck, DIY is not easy as it may seem ...

The most cost effective way is to use an online estate agent. That way you will get most of the benefits of using a traditional estate agents but for a fraction of the cost. Instead of paying upto 3% of the sale price it will only cost from £399!
