Tell estate agent now or wait until contract/notice period is up?

I have signed an 8 week contract/14 day notice period with estate agent. I have decided not to sell my house. I have 2 weeks to go on the contract. Should I tell estate agent my now to save him any costs and stop viewings or wait until end of contract?

  • Tell him now. He'd rather you were honest with him and not waste his time.

  • Yes. The contract will (normally) only give the agent his fee when contracts are exchanged. If you have no intention of selling then don't waste his or her time. He will thank you for the information and move on to the next deal - always hopeful that should you change your mind again at a later stage it will be his company that gets the instruction.
