How to get a buyer for my property?

My house has been for sale for six weeks. We have had an open day. We had accepted an offer but buyers withdrew after three days as they decided to offer on another property. What can we do to achieve a sale?

  • Hi Marieyoung, I would say that it's not quite time to start worrying just yet with regards to the sale of your property. It is a seller's market in the UK at the moment, and that means there are plenty of buyers around, but 6 weeks is not all that long to have had your property on the market. To get a sale, I can only advise that you make sure your advert on any websites and in newspapers as is comprehensive and in depth as possible. Describe all the plus points and include plenty of pictures to show the place off. When it comes to viewings, make sure the home is clean, tidy and decluttered to make the best first impression possible. However, if you are looking for a quick sale, you could always try lowering your price. It might be too soon for this just yet though. As I said, six weeks is still early days, and it may still be that someone will come along and pay you the full price soon. Many thanks, Scott

  • Have you considered a cash sale? You may not get the price you wanted however you will get a guaranteed sale in 7 - 10 days. Another option you might want to consider is auction. Failing that, give your buyers some incentives. Lower you asking price, offer to pay the buyers legals etc.
