As an investment, it could potentially bring more people to the area which could mean higher employment, which in turn could increase property rental and residential values.

Of course! HS2 will hardly disrupt rural life at all unless it's passing by a few metres away. As it stands, the only thing that'll be affected are house prices, which will make it cheaper to buy a a bigger house :-)
