Has anyone caught the train to Edinburgh?

Was it good value for money and would you recommend it as a good way to get up there?

  • If you book quite far in advance then the cost of a train to Edinburgh is very reasonable, but if you book it at the last minute then it can be very expensive. However, I seem to recall the journey being very pleasant through some beautiful countryside and the hours fly by!

  • It's the best way to go, if only for the banter on the way up from various Geordies and Scots. Seriously, book early and you'll save a packet. And you don't have to spend hours concentrating ...

  • Yes takes about 4.5 to 5 hours depending on you stations of arrival and departure from london / there is also the coach which is a lot cheaper though its like waiting for the cows to come home virgin trains

  • Book in advance and get a cheap ticket! otherwise fly from Gatwick with flybe for a cheap price.
