How Much does a HIPS Report Cost

My house will be going on the Market this year. So i would like to know the cost of an HIPS Report, and is this report a legal requirement? Many thanks.

  • At present it is a legal requirement. If there is a change in government mid year, Grant Shapps the Shadow housing minister has promised HIPs will be scrapped. At present you should be able to get a HIP prepared for between £200 and £300 plus vat. Most agents would rather your sale fee than getting good money for a HIP so haggle! If you attempt to market your property without one you could be fined £200 (you will then have to get one, so dont think it will be cheaper to just be fined). You could also attempt to put one together yourself, but my opinion is you would be better to let a professional do one for you, then its content (accuracy) and distribution is down to them! Good luck with your sale. Richard, Andrew Snape Estate Agents.

  • This Varies depending on what you buy. Hips can be bought from the web for circa £200 but may take a while to come back and in some cases may not be fully compliant with the law. Most estate agents will be able to organise your HIP with a reliable source circa £300 to £400.
