It now costs LESS to own a home than to rent one in nearly TWO THIRDS of British cities.

Our number-crunchers here at Zoopla examined the monthly cost of renting a two-bedroom home compared to servicing a mortgage in Britain’s biggest cities.

And staggeringly, the number of cities where buying is more cost-effective than renting has surged 25% since April alone.

Here are the top 10 locations where buying beats renting:

1. Glasgow

Average monthly rent: £596

Average asking price: £89,995

Average monthly mortgage repayment (based on a 10% deposit): £450

Rental premium: 28%
