    A Warmingham History

'The Grange', Warmingham was built in 1769 as a hunting lodge by the Earl of Crewe and has been fully restored to its original design. This fine Georgian house and estate is located in beautiful Cheshire farmland. The original estate was parkland where deer roamed and regular hunting and social parties were conducted.
At the end of the private driveway is the heart of Warmingham Village. Nestled in the river Wheelock valley, the peaceful village which predates the Norman conquest of 1066, is watched over by St. Leonard's Church, opposite the popular Bear's Paw public house.
There has been a church in Warmingham for over 700 years and in the churchyard are the remains of a medieval cross dating back to 1298. Although the current church was built in 1870, the tower dates from 1715 giving rise to the local saying, 'Poor Warmingham, proud people, new church, old steeple'.
The Bear's Paw was the location from which Lord Crewe's agents collected rents from local tenants and is now a charming social focal point for Warmingham Village.
