Location
Chesterfield is Derbyshire’s second largest town, best known for its crooked spire. St Mary and All Saints or the Crooked Spire Church, was dedicated in the 13th century and finished around 1360. It is the largest church in Derbyshire. The Spire was twisted when unseasoned wood was used during its construction. Then 32 tons of lead tiles were placed on top and as the timber dried out of weight of the lead twisted the spire.
The local market is the hub of the town and is held three times a week, hosting among 200 stalls. This traditional open air market has been going since at least 1165, when the sheriff of Derbyshire recorded an account of £1 2s 7d from the market of chesterfield.
The town has a thriving local community, offering a wide range of everyday requirements, including a busy town centre with the main high street full of high street names and small shops. All the key services are present including; several big named supermarkets, dentists doctors and library. The Victorian market hall stands in the centre of the old market, containing various shopping facilities and nearby is the Shambles, with narrow streets of shops and tea rooms that has its history rooted as far back as the 12th century. If you prefer to take a more leisurely pace also in close proximity to The Brambles is the famous Chesterfield Museum; Romans marched up Rykneild Street to the arrival of the industrial era, or enjoy a lovely stroll in Queens Park, not far from the Market Place.
For travel purposes The Brambles is situated near the A617 and within easy reach of the M1, with a train station in town.
