The development is close to the M62, Birstall is an ideal commuter town with easy links to Leeds City Centre, approximately 8 miles away and Bradford City Centre approximately 7 miles away.

Birstall's name means either "the fortified place" or "the place where the fort is".

Birstall is a small town with a population of around 8, 740.

Although unmentioned in the Doomsday book, a Roman tiled mosaic was unearthed at Birstall Smithies during excavations in 1965 along with a number of Roman coins.

The town centre has recently undergone a major redevelopment and features a proud statue of Joseph Priestly, the discoverer of Oxygen and inventor of soda water.

Birstall is also known for its large retail parks close the M62. Shops include Ikea, Next and a multiplex cinema.

To the north east of Birstall and around eight miles away lies Leeds. To the north west and around 7 miles away lies Bradford. Birstall’s closest neighbour is Batley to the south west, just under 2 miles away.

Close to Birstall is Oakwell Hall, a Victorian Manor House and the setting for Charlotte Bronte’s Shirley. The Hall is open to visitors and has a children’s adventure playground

The Bagshaw Museum on the outskirts of Birstall features a variety of interesting and unusual attractions. The former Mill owner’s house prides itself on being a place where you can hear a Shirley Bassey hit and see a Ganges crocodile.

There are a number of pubs in Birstall and some famed restaurants in both Leeds and Bradford

Close by is Batley Sports and Tennis centre and Batley Baths. Batley Baths contain a swimming pool and fitness suite in an impressive Victorian building.

Both Bradford and Leeds have sports teams a plenty. With both cities being well known for their rugby league sides.

Leeds is at the heart of festival fever every year providing the UK with the ever popular Leeds festival

The White Rose shopping centre is in the heart of Leeds and tends to every girls retail needs. Leeds also has some great shopping arcades and many boutiques.

Leeds has a Grand Theatre which has showings all year round of popular theatre performances

Leeds City Museum is open all week and admission is free – it provides the whole family with something to do

There are a number of good schools in Birstall. Close to the development is the Fieldhead Primary School and the St Peters C Of E Junior Infant & Nursery School. BirstallPrimary Schoolis also close by. Most pupils will transfer to nearby Batley when they’ve finished at primary schools. There are also a number of independent, private schools nearby. A dance school is also established in Birstall.

Shopping


Birstall is well known in West Yorkshire for its large retail parks close to the M62. Retailers include Ikea, Habitat, Marks and Spencer Simply Food, dfs plus a few others. The town also has a thriving village centre with a number of independent shops including a florist, a bakers, a butchers, a travel agent, a pet shop, a hair dressers, a fish shop, a nail bar, bistro and hot sandwich bar. For a day out shopping experience Leeds is fantastic, with an enviable variety of shopping centers, arcades and boutiques.

Transport


Birstall’s close proximity to the M62 makes commuting easy. Once on the M62 the metropolises’ of Leeds and Bradford are only minutes away as is the M1, A1(M) and the rest of the motorway network. The closest train station is in nearby Batley where trains frequently run between Leeds in one direction and Dewsbury and onto Huddersfield in the other. Buses that run to both Leeds and Bradford stop in Birstall.
