About Abbotswood By Taylor Wimpey

Abbotswood by Taylor Wimpey is situated in the historic town of Romsey. The development offers an extensive range of exciting and versatile house types to suit every lifestyle.

All the materials on the development have been carefully chosen to reflect the local area and to blend in with their immediate surroundings. Expertly designed to provide an efficient layout of floor space and built to high specification, the homes provide a high standard of style, practicality and energy efficiency.

About the area

A delightful place to call home, Romsey offers all the amenities needed for everyday life whilst retaining a distinct sense of history. The awe-inspiring Norman Abbey, which plays host to an eclectic annual music programme, dominates the town and is surrounded by medieval streets. Watermills play an important part in the history of Romsey (The Domesday Book of 1086 providing the earliest record of watermills here), and Sadler's Mill, dating back to the 16th century, is almost certainly the most famous of the town's surviving mills.

Romsey Abbey, originally built to house a community of Benedictine nuns, is open daily to visitors. You may also wish to take part in The Mayor's Picnic - famous for its popular Duck Race - hosted mid-summer and held in Romsey's Memorial Park. Or perhaps you'd prefer the medieval King John's House, Tudor Cottage and former Victorian Gun shop, which together make a new heritage centre that boasts amazing period gardens and a bubbling mill stream as well as offering spellbinding displays.

In Romsey, the past, present and future merge successfully and the recently renovated town centre now boasts a Waitrose supermarket, a department store, and over 100 other retail outlets, including high street chains and local shops, catering to all the needs of modern living.

Leisure

Romsey offers a broad range of leisure activities ranging from Romsey's well equipped Sports Centre to the Romsey Rugby Union Football Club, to "The Romsey Rapids" an all-year-round tropical water wonderland. Exclusive to Romsey is the The Mayor's Picnic - famous for its popular Duck Race - hosted early-mid summer and held in Romsey's Memorial Park - something that everybody should experience at least once!

Education

Pupils of all ages are well catered for with Primary Schools, High Schools, Colleges and the University of Southampton all within easy reach. The local primary, Romsey Primary school is located just over 1 mile from the development, while Cupernham Infant School is approximately 1.5 miles away. The Mountbatten School, one of the largest and most successful co-educational comprehensives in Hampshire, is 2.6 miles away.

Shopping

The historic setting of the town does not mean short-thrift when it comes to modern living and great shopping. The recently renovated town centre boasts a Waitrose supermarket, a department store, and over 100 other retail outlets, including high street chains and local shops. Whatever you need or desire can be easily found with an abundance of choice and competitive prices.

Transport

Romsey Railway Station is just over 2 miles from the development. Operated by First Great Western, services can help you get to wherever you need to be in the UK, with a journey to London Waterloo coming in at under two hours.* Southampton Airport, with around 50 destinations to choose from, including 15 French destinations, is approximately 11.1 miles away. Romsey is within 10 miles of both the M27 and M3, providing fast links along the south coast and to London. And with at least 29 local bus services to choose from, local travel should never pose a problem.

Health

With over 30 years' successful practise, The Nightingale Surgery is a partnership of five doctors supported by two more doctors. Doctors, nurses, health visitors and staff work as a dedicated team to provide a personal service across a range of health issues and are situated only 1.5 miles from the development. A community Dental Service can be found at around the same distance and Southampton General Hospital is approximately 7.4 miles from the development.
