Situation


Dyrham is a beautiful village, perfectly located, with easy access into the City of Bath, whilst also being very convenient to access the M4 either to Bristol or towards London.  The countryside surrounding Dyrham is really very fine for walking and Dyrham Park, which is close by, is a spectacular example of a 17th Century mansion with its fine gardens and parkland open to the public.   Local amenities can be reached at Marshfield including an excellent primary school, a butcher and convenience shop and several public houses.   There is also a very handy petrol station with store at Pennsylvania.

The Cottage is quite simply one of the finest homes we have seen over recent years. The quality of the interior and the way in which it is designed is outstanding with great sensitivity being given to the period features which include timber beams, stone mullioned windows and a fine inglenook fireplace.  Our client is a professional garden designer and plants woman, so the gardens are particularly special.  One could wait some years before seeing another house of this quality.

Entering the house via the back door you are greeted with a very fine kitchen with bespoke painted units, part wooden/part granite worktops and attractive limestone tiled flooring.   There is a gas range cooker (powered by lpg), integrated fridge and freezer and a dishwasher.   From a side window there is a delightful view across the gardens and from the Butlers sink you have wonderful far reaching views.  From the kitchen you enter a rear hallway, which again is beautifully designed with a cosy feel and bookshelves along one wall. On the first floor there is a superb large double bedroom with a bank of fitted wardrobes down one side.  The room is both light and airy, given its double aspect.  A pretty Victorian style fireplace completes the charm of the room.  Off the master bedroom is a family bathroom and there are two further bedrooms on this floor.   The larger of the two has three fitted cupboards and a lovely window seat.

On the top floor is a great attic room with beautiful exposed beams providing a fourth bedroom.


Outside


It is hard to describe quite how pretty the gardens are of The Cottage.   Our client has invested very heavily in creating a breathtaking garden which has an incredible array of plants set out formally around fine lawns.  At the top of the garden is a stone outbuilding providing useful storage and an area to sit out and enjoy the gardens.   There is also a further very pretty timber summerhouse, by the side of which is a dovecote.   The views to the west of the garden are superb and there is a well shielded sense through the particular planting scheme.  Particular plants of note include several damson and plum trees, a mulberry tree, peonies and roses.  At one end of the garden are a series of five compost bins shielded by a row of bamboo plants.  Steps down from the front garden lead to off-street parking for two vehicles.

Directions


Take the A4 London Road out of Bath and proceed up the A46 towards the M4.   Go over the first roundabout and proceed past the petrol station.   After a further half mile you will see a turning on the left, signposted Dyrham.  Proceed down the lane and after half a mile take the right hand fork and The Cottage will be found on your left hand side.
