History of Belmont House
Belmont House was reportedly built in 1795 for a trader with the East India company., but soon passed through the hands of an Irish absentee landlord to those of a wealthy but unmarried merchant. It stayed in the family for the next hundred years and was often let to distinguished visitors, including the duchess of Kent and her daughter, the future Queen Victoria.
