The Property
Home Farm is a fine Grade II Listed house, with attractive rendered elevations and stone mullion windows under a clay pantile roof. The house sits within the popular conservation village of Burghwallis, north of Doncaster and within easy reach of the A1(M).

Historic Note
Home Farm has a long history dating back some four hundred years, but it is perhaps its more recent residents that have left a lasting mark. It was Christmas 1971 when Shirley Clarkson made two bears called Paddington for her children Joanna and Jeremy.

40 years on its hard to work out which has become the more famous, Jeremy the famed motoring journalist and Top Gear presenter or Paddington Bear. Whilst Shirley was not responsible for writing the Paddington books, her two bears would go on to become thousands, many of which were lovingly hand made on the kitchen table at Home Farm by her and her team and quickly became synonymous with the stories and were in demand from all over the world. In June 2008 Shirley published Bearly Believable: My Part In The Paddington Bear Story, charting the heady days of the 1970' when her Paddington Bears were the must have toy and as the Clarksons family home at the time, Home Farm features extensively.

The Location
Burghwallis is an attractive rural village, with its own eponymous public house and Church of Saint Helen. The neighbouring villages of Carcroft and Skellow have a range of everyday services including shops, library, several schools and health centre.

Comprehensive services are located in nearby Doncaster, famous for its racecourse, Leeds, Wakefield and to the north York and Selby. Close by, the village of Wentbridge has a highly regarded hotel and the Bluebell public house.

The surrounding area enjoys many attractive walks, cycle and bridle paths, racecourses at Pontefract and Doncaster, whilst Leeds, the regional centre is home to Yorkshire County Cricket Club as well as leading Rugby League and Football teams. The area is well served with a number of highly regarded Golf courses.

Communications
Within easy reach of the A1(M) Burghwallis is well placed for quick access to the national motorway network and rail network. Frequent high speed rail services on the East Coast Mainline run from Doncaster reaching London Kings Cross in just over one and a half hours. Regional commuter services run from Adwick into York, Leeds, Sheffield and across the region. The area has a number of airports including Leeds Bradford and Doncaster Robin Hood serving a range or continental destinations. The ferry ports at Hull have regular services to Zeebrugge and Rotterdam.

Directions
From the A1(M) heading south turn off on to Scorcher Hills Lane, shortly after the turning to Campsall. Continue along the lane into the village, at the t-junction turn left onto Grange Lane. In front of the War Memorial turn right on to Old Village Street and the property will be found on the right hand side after a short distance.
