A long time ago six Chilcompton men met to discuss the running of thevillage.
There was a farmer, a vicar and four other important men. That same yearthere was a very hot summer and the river ran dry. This caused many problems. Thena young man saw a drip of water near the common ground. He started to dig andthen placed a half barrel in the hole to make a watering place.
So the place was called John Fry's Well the well is still there andstill flowing
