Meadwood House is located at the edge of the Mendip village of Gurney Slade which offers a range of facilities including a village store and two public houses. For more extensive facilities both the Cathedral City of Wells and Shepton Mallet are within driving distance. Wells has a very popular twice weekly farmers market as well as an independent cinema, good restaurants, cafes and a variety of shops. In addition there are a number of cultural activities and musical events held at the cathedral. Bristol and Bath also offer a wide range of amenities including main line rail, shopping, theatres and leisure facilities. Bristol International Airport is 18 miles away while Castle Cary station with mainline services to London and Exeter is 11 miles away.

 

There are a wide range of educational establishments at all levels in the area from the public and private sectors. The local primary schools include Oakhill, West Horrington, Chilcompton and Chewton Mendip and the local state secondary schools are The Blue School, Wells and Whitstone School, Shepton Mallet.  There are also private schools in the locality including Wells Cathedral School, Downside, Millfield and All Hallows.

 

The area is also good for a variety of sporting and leisure facilities. Walking and cycling may be undertaken in the immediate locality. There are leisure centres at Shepton Mallet, Wells and Frome. Golf courses at Farrington Gurney, Mendip, Wells and Orchardleigh. Sailing at Chew Valley Lake and fishing in the Chew Valley and Blagdon Lakes.
