Property description

Cotherstone is a spacious and elegant family home, in an excellent location. When the present owners Wayne and Jo viewed the house it was in need of some refurbishment. This suited them as they were looking for a project, and with great care and attention to detail they carried out renovations and added a large extension. They created a home that offers luxury living at its very best.

Chestfield is a village in a semi-rural location that offers the perfect balance between town and country living. A community minded village, there are nearby shops and the house looks over the eighteenth hole of Chestfield Golf Course that has the reputation of being one of the best in Kent. There are scenic coastal walks plus the delights of the Kent countryside to be enjoyed.

Picturesque Whitstable is a short cycle ride away and is known for its thriving arts community, whilst the annual Oyster Festival is an enjoyable event. Historic Canterbury is under a six mile drive away, and for commuters there is an excellent rail service into London Victoria.

The house was built in the first part of the twentieth century, and has a delightful mock Tudor exterior and an extremely inviting kerbside appeal. Jo explains the object was to create a home that was fresh, sleek, stylish and contemporary, in a house that is now a hundred years old. This has been achieved, as the general ambience is one of streamlined sophistication, combined with great comfort. The evidence can currently be seen on the Laura Ashley Home Design site.

The entire house is flooded with natural light, and Wayne describes the pleasure the family gain from the reception rooms; and in particular the main lounge with its dual aspect. Always light even on the greyest of days, it is perfect to settle before the open fire on cold winter nights. This room combined with the large chic dining room make the perfect entertaining venue.

The fantastic pool off the kitchen is a very gregarious space. It is much appreciated, and in full use throughout the year. The three double sliding doors open in the summer to allow the garden into the pool. It is ideal for barbecues and summer parties.

The six bedrooms ensure easy overnight hospitality, and the family bathroom has a great wow factor for first time visitors. The Catchpole and Rye luxury fittings create a real showstopper in a palatial setting.

The master bedroom suite is a very spacious, peaceful and private adult sanctuary. The floor to ceiling windows frame fabulous views across the garden: And the roomy balcony is the perfect place to sit with a morning coffee or a glass of wine to watch the evening steal across the sky.

The gardens are extensive with swathes of lawn, dotted with mature trees, soft shrubbery and a pretty brook running through; together they provide a private and serene oasis. It is also a fantastic playground for the children and dogs.

Wayne and Jo have created a home full of visual treats and seamlessly intertwining spaces which have an easy flow and function for family relaxation and entertaining.
They love the house and take away happy memories, but are also keen to start on their next project.
